  • I can't seem to sleep

Today was one of those days where you just think too much. You think to much about the world. You mentally soliloquize about  everything that bothers you about the world. And you realize after a while just how disturbing life really is.Our world is a scary place. Right now the entire  world has bleak prospects. Basically the entire world is going into rescession, our country has absoloutly no money, we are facing world climate change and a whole slew of other wonderful things. Am I the only person who sort of feels the world crumbling down around them?

It is not just those big world issues that bug me. Little things about everyday life bug me, ranging from the friend that talked about getting piss drunk a few weekends ago or realizing just how much things have changed in my life. I may be a little nostalgic here but, damn I miss the innoscence of being a young kid. I miss not understanding all of the issues that plague the human race, be it dissease, war, or relationship issues. Things were much simpler when  the worst thing you had to worry about was if llittle Becca down the street could come out and have a race with you and your brother. I miss the stress free days. I didn't have to worry about how the hell I am going to pay for collge and get a decent paying job so I can  move away from this place that I hate. I miss the days when I needn't agonize aboutwhat I was going to study . I could just tell every one that " I either wan to be ummmmmm a doctor oorrrr a singer. Yeah I wanna siiing and danceeee!!!!" I miss being seven damnit. I moss having a carefree existence. I hate having to worry about keeping face with certain people. I wish others didn't feel the need to out up a facade around me. That is perhaps the thing that bothers me the most.

It bothers me the most because I kow the reasons why it happens. Everyone in the world want to be the same. We all want to blend in to one big homogenous mass. Human nature I guess is like that. I was going to blam this whole crazy ideal on the media, but then I remembered thatthings such as rascism and sexism went farther back than newspapers and television. If there is one question I would love whatever diety  exists to answer it would be why humans need to be the saame as one another.

I know I am perfectly content with being different. I am prooud to say that I don't listen to what everyone else listens to. I love reading, the smell of old books, folk music and everything from the sixties and early seventies. I would rather eat vegetables than gorge myself on Doritos and Mountian Dew. I now drink tea instead of coffee. I do not feel the need to attach my self to the first cute boy I meet and cling to him as if I am drowning. I read non-fiction. I would rather die at age 25 than at 105, knowing that I atleast would not have to watch those around me die. I like to spin because I feel that for once I am keeping up with the speed of change. I text and e-mail with proper grammar.

Now I know that I am not the only person in the world thatdoes these things or feels this way about something, but I am still differnt, still unique. I have no wish to be like any one else.

What I really mean to say is that I am sick and tired of watching m firends and family destroy theselves by trying to change things about themselves to siut other people. They thry to change themselves and others to all be the same, whether consiously or not. It is slowly tearing them apart and riuning thier relationships. It is hard to watch and even moore difficult to stop. It makes me want to rip my hair out in frustratioon while sobbing like a child. I saddens and disgusts me and I can't stop it from happening. it is like watching a car crash in slow motion.

I just wish that we culd all be ourselves and accept one another. Is that too much to ask?

BTW: Please excuse any poor grammar or typing errors. It is  @:30 in the morning and At this time I have limited motor skills.

  • I fought the war...

... but those damned liberals with their secular agenda won! Well that is what the conservative right is saying at the moment.
Yes, the War on Christmas is back and more heated than ever. How wonderful for us! More hours of listening to a bunch of ill-informed, hypocritical bigots talk about the ruination of America through sign and cars. Oh happy day! I think I might dance. Well, maybe not.

I honestly don't see why all of the conservatives are all hung up on this. We say "Happy Holidays", not to be politically correct, but to be respectful and conscious of other's beliefs. How do I know that someone I greet at the store isn't a Christian. It is far more courteous to give a general statement to everyone. Sure, it can become annoying at times, but think of all the trouble it saves. Do you want to get in a fight with a touchy person? I know I don't As far as I know, not everyone in America celebrates Christmas, nor are they all Christian. (Yes I am talking about you, Utah state senator Chris Buttars. “I'm sick of the Christmas wars. We're a Christian nation and ought to use the word.”)

So many politicians and leaders in the country are hung up on this absurd idea that the United States is a Christian country. Let me clarify this, We. Are. Not.  People fled to this country to gain religious freedom. Our Constitution offers this freedom of religion in the Bill of Rights.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This nation allows people of all faiths to abide within it. Why shouldn't we respect that.  This country is not made of a bunch of WASP good ol' boys. Sorry to dissapoint you, but not every U.S. citizen was here from the time the Mayflower sailed to Plymouth Rock.

'In his 1995 book, Alien Nation, [Peter]Brimelow argued that the influx of “weird aliens with dubious habits” from developing nations was eroding America’s white Christian “ethnic core,”'(The Daily Beast, 9 Dec 2008)

Our country has white, black, Asian, Muslim, Hindu, hispanic, and a whole other slew of cultures and religious beliefs. Why should we assume that everyone believes in the birth of Christ. It is a rude and enforces racial and religious tensions along with xenophobia.

So that is my case. I bid the goodnight with a fervent "Happy Holidays"

    Economic Solution

Lately I have taken to obsessively watching the news. I am watching everything from CNBC to C-Span to follow the economy's ever downward spiral. I am reading anything that I can get my hands on about it and I still find my self puzzling over how we are ever going to get out of this. I will admit that like John McCain I'm no expert on any of this. I don't necessarily know what will or will not work to fix this problem, but I know that it has to be fixed, and quickly. If it isn't it is quite possible that America will never recover and will lose everything.

The state of the economy leaves a gigantic knot in my stomach. I worry that I will not be able to go to school this coming fall. I might not be able to get a loan from any where due to my lack of credit. The lovely banks that our country just dumped billions in to aren't giving out any of it. They are hoarding it like squirrels hoard nuts for the winter. They are not lending out money because it is too risky for them to. They do not want to risk loosing any of the money to people with low or no credit scores, which is quickly becoming the majority of Americans. So we as a country have just entered in to a vicious cycle. A cycle of our government taking our money, giving it to a bunch of rich executives who will in turn, not give it back to us. Isn't that nice. Thank you ever so much Secretary Paulson. (He... well he is a whole other rant by himself)

I think that these banks need to loosen up a bit. Yes, I know we are in a recession (it's official now!) and we all have ti tighten our belts a bit, but these companies need to be open to taking a risk. Taking risks is a part of life. If we don't take risks nothing gets done. If Edison didn't take the risk of failure we wouldn't have lightbulbs today.Risks can bring about great returns. The benefits of taking a risk in this case are totally transparent. If they take this risk, this chance, all of the markets that are currently frozen will begin to move again. People will be able to buy homes, cars, and pay for college tuition. Credit score will go back up because people will be able to actually pay for the things that they need. On top of all of this put the President-Elect's plan for creating jobs and we have a problem solved. Viola!

I could be terribly wrong on this but is it too much to ask for a little faith from the banks. We, the people, are not just numbers that give and take money. This is not all a bunch of theoretical bull shit. The people of this country are quickly loosing their ability to provide for themselves and their families. It is not just about you any more banks so get off your stupid butts and lend us a hand please. We promise we will pay you back. (Well really YOU should pay us back, since, you know, we kind of just gave you a few billion of our tax dollars (actually our great-great grandchildren's tax dollars, but whose keeping track),but I know, that's not how it works.)

I don't know if this solution will work(I haven't gotten to take economics yet, sorry), but it sounds like a pretty good idea to me. A little bit of trust and faith in people can go a long way.
Plus... I'd really, truly love to be able to pay for college and graduate school. That would be super nice.

  • The Wonders of Capitalism... not

A man was trampled to death at a Wal-Mart in Long Island today. He was trampled by people who were so eager to get to $400 flat screen televisions. I wonder which was more important to these shoppers; a life or a T.V.? Several other store workers and shoppers were also hurt and sent to hospitals, including a woman who was eight months pregnant.

I find behavior such as this to be appalling. Black Friday has become a barbaric practice in this country. We are so defined by what we own that we will hurt others to have more. We want it all and we want it now. God forbid we have to wait and walk in the store in an orderly fashion. Personally I think that if you try to break down the doors of a store, like this group of people did (they took the term 'Doorbusters' seriously.) that you should not be allowed in the store until every other shopper waiting in line has been let in. It would teach people. I just can't fathom why people get so desperate for possessions. I mean material thinks are great and all, but do we have to hurt others to get to them? I love shopping, but I don't take it to the extreme.

Of course not all Black Friday shoppers are so rude and uncaring of the safely and lives of others. I know and have seen plenty of shoppers who do not run and fight for every deal offered in the store. I think that the people of America need to calm down. Black Friday prices aren't even the beast prices. A person is better of checking prices at various stores both before and after the season. There is such a thing as an I.O.U. especially in these tough economic times. I know that I am most likely going to get some of my Christmas presents after Christmas. After Christmas sales can be awesome.

I will admit to doing some shopping today. I didn't push people out of my way to get what I wanted. Mind you I wasn't looking to buy a T.V.I also didn't leave my house at 3 o' clock in the morning, which did leave me to miss out on a pretty good deal on a laptop for school. Mais, ces't la vie. I didn't argue with anyone or get angry when told that it was sold out. There was no trampling or shoving involved.

I do not understand why people get so worked up about owning things. This country definitely needs to calm down and look at the little things that make life pleasant. If they do they might find that a giant T.V. only gives them momentary happiness. Reconnecting with a friend or sitting down and talking to their families would make them much happier in the long run. Connecting with people and having solid relationships with others is what makes life enjoyable.

We need to take a break. I urge you to stop and smell the metaphorical roses.

And please don't run ANYONE over with a shopping cart.

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

        --William Shakespeare, Sonnet 18

Part of my English homework tonight is to answer questions about this lovely sonnet. Question 2: What qualities make the speakers lover more lovely than a summer day.

My answer: Weeelll... she's not too hot, she's not too cold. shee's juuuuuuust right!

I have been reduced to explaining literature through Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Oh god....
All of this english Hw has been bad. the first question I had to answer was "How does the use of alliteration affect the tone of the poem" Okay a good question .... if there was any alliteration at all in the poem. Not one single repeating consonat sound. Not one! Ugh first that then the Goldilocks explanation..... English ruins everything.

One does has to admit, it is a rather apt description.
