  • I fought the war...

... but those damned liberals with their secular agenda won! Well that is what the conservative right is saying at the moment.
Yes, the War on Christmas is back and more heated than ever. How wonderful for us! More hours of listening to a bunch of ill-informed, hypocritical bigots talk about the ruination of America through sign and cars. Oh happy day! I think I might dance. Well, maybe not.

I honestly don't see why all of the conservatives are all hung up on this. We say "Happy Holidays", not to be politically correct, but to be respectful and conscious of other's beliefs. How do I know that someone I greet at the store isn't a Christian. It is far more courteous to give a general statement to everyone. Sure, it can become annoying at times, but think of all the trouble it saves. Do you want to get in a fight with a touchy person? I know I don't As far as I know, not everyone in America celebrates Christmas, nor are they all Christian. (Yes I am talking about you, Utah state senator Chris Buttars. “I'm sick of the Christmas wars. We're a Christian nation and ought to use the word.”)

So many politicians and leaders in the country are hung up on this absurd idea that the United States is a Christian country. Let me clarify this, We. Are. Not.  People fled to this country to gain religious freedom. Our Constitution offers this freedom of religion in the Bill of Rights.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This nation allows people of all faiths to abide within it. Why shouldn't we respect that.  This country is not made of a bunch of WASP good ol' boys. Sorry to dissapoint you, but not every U.S. citizen was here from the time the Mayflower sailed to Plymouth Rock.

'In his 1995 book, Alien Nation, [Peter]Brimelow argued that the influx of “weird aliens with dubious habits” from developing nations was eroding America’s white Christian “ethnic core,”'(The Daily Beast, 9 Dec 2008)

Our country has white, black, Asian, Muslim, Hindu, hispanic, and a whole other slew of cultures and religious beliefs. Why should we assume that everyone believes in the birth of Christ. It is a rude and enforces racial and religious tensions along with xenophobia.

So that is my case. I bid the goodnight with a fervent "Happy Holidays"

I wanted to tell you that this was the most perfect thing I've read on the "Christmas Wars". The whole thing is silly in my opinion-- the whole "OMG THEY DON'T SAY CHRISTMAS!" thing, I mean. I personally don't give two fucks whether I'm met with "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" or what have you, and anyone who does is way too hung up on the wrong things.

Anyway, this was just amazing and if I could give you something more substantial than e-props for it, I would. Haha.
